Gonçalo Valério is a Sound Designer and Musician from the Azores, also known by his artistic name, Valério AZ. His work bridges the worlds of music and post-production, where sound becomes both craft and narrative.
He began his academic path in Theoretical Physics at the University of Lisbon in 2017, before shifting focus to his true calling: sound. In 2018, he moved to the UK to pursue a B.Sc. (Hons) in Music Technology and Audio Production at the University of Kent, graduating in 2021 with First-Class Honours.
Since then, Gonçalo has collaborated with globally recognized brands and studios such as National Geographic, BMW, Red Bull, Chevrolet, and Powerade, among many others. Each project brings its own voice — from sound design and original composition to final mix and mastering for film, broadcast, and digital platforms. He has also worked extensively in film, television, and theatre as an audio engineer and technician, contributing to productions in both creative and technical capacities. More details on these projects can be found on the Work page.
As a musician, he released his debut album, Um Simples Devaneio, in 2017. His upcoming project, Bancos à Beira Lua, is already unfolding across digital platforms, with four singles — including the title track — available for streaming. His sonic world blends introspection and atmosphere, often drawing from the textures and solitude of his island home.
Whether for screen or sound system, Valério’s work is rooted in storytelling through tone, rhythm, and space.
